The best-selling author of the book The Sacraments: How Catholics Pray (St. Anthony Messenger Press) speaks briefly of the history of this sacrament and its renewal by the Second Vatican Council, and then examines three areas in which our understanding of this sacrament has grown in the last 10 years: 1) all sacraments are community celebrations; 2) the holistic unity of body, soul and spirit; and 3) the sacraments are celebrations of faith.
