In this issue of Catholic Update, author John Feister discusses Pope Benedict XVII's April 2008 trip to the United States, the theme of which is "Christ Our Hope." This theme follows from the Pope's 2007 encyclical Spe Salvi (Saved by Hope), which Feister further discusses. Feister points out, "So, we ask again, what may we hope? Hope is not a matter of getting somewhere, as we might do with progress in science, observes the pope. Hope, rather, is always about a new situation, a new beginning, because our freedom is always new."
