Pat McCloskey, O.F.M.
All of us carry out images or mental pictures of God. If images do not
grow as we grow, we will be trying to develop an adult faith on a fragile base. When we
lose baby teeth, we soon realize that adult teeth will follow. If life experiences
challenge our childhood images of God, we may not realize that Scripture and the faith
community offer many other images of God. Surveys images of God in the Hebrew Scriptures
and the New Testament. "Whether we like it or not," writes McCloskey, "our
images of God, self and others are all tied together. Whatever lenses a person uses to see
God are the same lenses for seeing oneself and others."
