James Loughran discusses spiritual ecumenism, the soul of the ecumenical movement, as embodied in the standard yearly format Christians observe each January during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. The author observes, the prayer for Christian unity "is the Church's attempt to practice what our Lord prayed for on the night before he died for us, 'That they may all be one. As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be one in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me' (John 17:21)."
