The author recalls the story of Valeen Schnurr, a survivor of the terror at Columbine High School in Littleton. Schnurr turned to God in prayer in the face of unspeakable violence and fear. Likewise Jesus turned to prayer in uncertain or difficult times. The prayer he gave us, Goodwin writes, is like a threadbare blanket that is rewoven with new life when we pay close attention to the words we are speaking. “When you intentionally think about the words of the Lord?s Prayer,” she writes, “they become filled with meaning.”
