'My Best Friend Committed Suicide'
J. Brent Bill
Suicide is a major cause of death among teenagers. This Youth Update is one person's very moving and personal story of the suicide of his best friend. The author tells the story as an adult looking back 15 years on the suicide of "Greg", his best friend in high school. It is a powerful statement about one teen's "life filled with pain" and how even his closest friend missed all the signals (loss of appetite, withdrawal, depression, bizarre behavior). In the end, Hill sees his friend's suicide as a test of faith that caused him to "wonder how God could allow such a terrible thing." After the suicide, Hill writes, "I felt God's support as I worked though my feelings of anger, sorrow and confusion." An excellent Update on a timely topic.
